Our music reflects the resolve of people like Claire to make sure that human goodness triumphs in the face of adversity. The Island of Ireland Peace Choir is open to people of all Christian persuasions and has expanded in recent years beyond Waterford and Omagh to include members from Belfast, Tullow, Carlow, Cork, Gorey and Dublin. The collective power of the many diverse voices in the choir is a potent symbol of our shared aspiration for a new style of society that we want on this island where difference and discord gives way to something more unifying.
Over the past few years, we have performed in concerts throughout Ireland, most notably in Northern Ireland’s Government Buildings in Stormont and in The Odyssey Arena, Belfast. The choir recently sang at the ‘Mary McAleese Christmas Peace Truce Lecture’ in Iveagh House, Dublin and had the honour of singing the National Anthems at the Ireland England Soccer International in the Aviva Stadium in June 2015. The choir travelled to Sri Lanka to visit the Children’s Homes that we had raised funds for in the wake of the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami and hope to visit there again in 2016 to mark our ten year outreach to the children in these homes.
Auditions for the choir for the coming season will take place in The Edmund Rice International Heritage Centre, Waterford on Saturday, 5th
of September at 10 am. New members 18 years of age and older are welcome to apply. If interested, send an e-mail to Phil Brennan Musical Director.
